The correct order for our morning skin care routine is cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer and lastly sunscreen. With this routine you are basically going from the thinnest to the thickest texture and it is said that when these skin care products are applied to damp skin, they have better penetration. This routine is really easy to adapt and it leaves your skin looking good and healthy. So technically having good skin is not entirely dependent on your genes, caring for your skin and ensuring its quality is personal.
Step 1: Cleanser
Your cleanser is always going to be your first step. Make sure that your cleanser does not irritate or dry out your skin and at the same time is able to remove any excess oils, dirt and sweat that gathered up overnight or during the day.
Step 2: Toning
A toner is basically a liquid that minimizes the appearance of pores, temporarily tightens skin and is quite refreshing. As much as toner is good for you, there are some ingredients you should avoid in your toner, things like alcohol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, parabens, artificial fragrance and phthalates. Using rose water as a toner is great for your skin because it protects the skin against environmental stressors, provides a calming and soothing sensation, it helps get rid of oil, dirt and makeup and it helps the skin to retain moisture.
Step 3: Serum
A serum is a skin care product with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. The traditional serums are water based and they contain penetration enhancers like butylene glycol and ethanol that help the ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin. Serums aim to give your skin a boost in hydration, texture enhancing and collagen production. Some work better at night and others work better in the morning, knowing such little details would go a long way.
Step 4: Moisturize
Moisturizers are really important because they help with reducing trans epidermal water loss out of the skin which ultimately contributes to dryness and irritation which then leads to flares of acne. The moisturizer also helps your skin to recover from environmental stressors which leaves your skin looking rejuvenated.
Step 5: Sunscreen
This is one thing you should never leave behind when leaving the house and you should re-apply it throughout the day. Sunscreen is not only good for improving hyperpigmentation but it also keeps the skin healthy and would help protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation that contributes to aging and skin cancer.
